Description

The storm glass (small version) is a fascinating meteorological instrument, both decorative and mysterious. Popular in the 19th century and made famous by Admiral FitzRoy, companion of Charles Darwin, it contains a chemical solution whose crystals form and transform according to atmospheric variations.
Every change in the appearance of the crystals — transparency, cloudiness, needle-like structures or flakes — offers an indication of the weather to come. Although it does not replace modern scientific tools, the storm glass captivates with its unique aesthetic and its ability to evoke weather changes in a poetic and natural way.
Both a curiosity and a decorative object, it finds its place in modern as well as classical interiors. Whether predicting a storm, announcing clear skies, or signalling a drop in temperatures, the storm glass invites us to rediscover the weather through a more sensitive, almost magical lens.
